Recently Meryl was invited by The Smithsonian Associates (an educational arm of The Smithsonian Institution) to discuss her life and career with Michael Kahn, director of Washington's Shakespeare Theatre. Seated on the stage of George Washington University's Lisner Auditorium, Meryl chatted in front of a sold-out crowd. The tone was set early as Kahn gushed: "You're the best actress of your generation," and asked where "it all comes from." 'It comes from New Jersey,' cracked Meryl, delighting the crowd.
